Our Story

Hello! We are Janna and Ryan Greir- shepherds and owners of Whispering Cedars Ranch. We wanted to pursue a passion for farming that started at a young age, and decided to raise sheep because of their small size and gentle nature. Whispering Cedars Ranch was established in 2012 and currently sits on 93 acres near Strathmore, Alberta. Working together to grow our flock has provided us with a rewarding adventure and an environment where our two children can follow alongside us; learning about animal husbandry, and environmental stewardship, all while getting their hands dirty.

Why Whispering Cedars Ranch? As a child, along with his Great Uncle Howard, Ryan was given the opportunity to work with cattle and horses. Uncle Howard instilled his love for the land and animals in Ryan. Unfortunately, Uncle Howard is no longer with us, but Whispering Cedars Ranch is a tribute to his memory and dedication to ranching.

Our goal is simple: raise Alberta lamb and provide the industry with healthy and proven purebred replacement breeding stock. We put the health and safety of our animals at the forefront. We are members of Alberta Lamb Producers and work closely with the University of Calgary, GenOvis, FarmWorks, and other organizations to better the sheep industry in Canada.
